# Relative Error Calculator

Relative error can be explained as the amount uncertainty of measured value versus the true value. To calculate relative error, we should also calculate absolute error.

The absolute error can be calculated by subtracting true value with measured value.

To calculate relative error, divide absolute error by true value and multiply by 100 to find relative error in percent.

## Relative Error Solved Example

**Example:** A piece of wood was measured and found to be 120 cms. But the actual value of the wood is 123 cms. Find the relative error.

**Solution: **Given:

True value = 123 cms

Measured value = 120 cms

Firstly, let us find out absolute error.

We know by subtracting true value with measured value we get absolute error = 123 - 120 = 3cms

Therefore, absolute error = 3cms

Now, let us find out the relative error = absolute error/True value x 100

= 3/123 x 100 = 2.43%

Therefore, the relative error for the given values = 2.43%
