Deceleration Calculator

Deceleration is nothing but the opposite of acceleration. It is the amount of speed reduction by an object in the given time period. Deceleration is also known as negative acceleration and measured in m/s2. We can find deceleration with the help of this below formula:

Deceleration Formula

Here is an example which helps us understand deceleration:

Question: A car is traveling at 65 kilometers per hour, the driver apply brakes and the car comes to halt in 6 seconds. Find the deceleration of the car?

Solution:
Given:
Initial velocity = 65 kmph
Final velocity = 0 kmph
Time = 6 secs

Formula to calculate deceleration = (Final Velocity - Initial Velocity) / Time

Inserting the given data into the formula = 0 - 65 / 6

= -10.83 km/s2

Converting into m/s2 = -10.83 * 1000 = -10830 m/s2

Enter initial velocity, final velocity and time taken in the below calculator to find the deceleration.

Initial Velocity: [meters/second]
Final Velocity: [meters/second]
Time: [secs]
Deceleration: [m/s2]
